Teletronics
announces its 900 MHz Up/Down Converter with Power over
Ethernet for 2.4 GHz radio to extend the range with
Near Line-of-Sight.
Rockville, MD – November 22, 2004
Teletronics International, Inc.
announces a new product, 900MHz Up/Down Converter with
Power over Ethernet (POE) that works with any 2.4 GHz
radio for readily in-the-air transmission at 900MHz.
This product has two versions, UDC9001 (Up/Down Converter
900 MHz 1 Watt) and UDC9002 (Up/Down Converter 900 MHz
2 Watt).
The new 900 MHz broadband product will add to Teletronics’
existing radio product portfolio that supports 2.4 GHz
and 5.8 GHz frequencies. This product will allow a link
at 900 MHz to be established over distances in excess
of 20 miles depending on conditions with a Near Line-of-Sight
(NLOS).
Unlike 802.11a/b/g standards, there is no standard applicable
to 900 MHz radios, significantly hindering the market
prospects of proprietary 900 MHz radios. Teletronics’
approach of using UDC with a 2.4 GHz radio creates a
new prospect because:
1. It provides not only Line-of-Sight (LOS) but Near
Line-of-Sight (NLOS) coverage at 900 MHz
for increased range beyond those of existing systems.
2. It works with both 802.11b/g standards, although
the 802.11g mode provides the better performance.
3. It is easy to upgrade and add new features in the
802.11 standard such as QoS in the future without investing
additional R/D dollars.
4. It works with Teletronics Ezbridge, Versa Routers,
and other outdoor 802.11b/g products, all are robust,
low-cost equipment.
“In addition to low cost and extended
range,” said Dr. Dickson Fang, President of Teletronics,
“we believe our 900 Mhz customers will now enjoy
the tremendous business advantage of claiming their
system as a part of the main stream of 802.11, eligible
for all kinds of broadband wireless applications.”
