RF
Microwave equipment to perform an essential role in
telemetry and field testing for the next generation
of driverless vehicle technology
San Diego, CA (September 15, 2004)
Autonomous Vehicle Systems LLC announced today the selection
of Teletronics International, Inc. to provide RF Microwave
equipment as an official sponsor for the company’s
2005 DARPA Grand Challenge vehicle, Flying
Fox. Teletronics’ high-speed wireless
products will be used extensively for streaming telemetry
information from vehicle sensors and software during
field testing, as well as remote operation for human
assisted maneuvers prior to the race event.
“The Teletronics RF Microwave product line is
of the highest quality in both form and technical engineering
for durability in the environmental conditions we will
encounter in the Mojave Desert field tests,” says
Dan Komaromi, Vice President of Autonomous Vehicle Systems
LLC.
“Teletronics’ frequency converters convert
popular broadband systems at 2.4 GHz to other proprietary
bands,” added Dr. Dickson Fang, the President/CEO
of Teletronics, “including those at 1.8 GHz and
4.4GHz used by the US Army and Navy.”
Teletronics is the only patent holder for Automatic
Gain Control (AGC) technology. The patent on AGC amplifiers
under U.S. Pat. No. 6,681,100 covers all bi-directional
amplifiers in 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz.
Scheduled for October 2005, the DARPA Grand Challenge
for autonomous robotic ground vehicles will cover a
course of approximately 175 miles across the desert
between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The vehicle that
most quickly completes the route in less than 10 hours
will receive a cash award of $2 million. This challenge
is intended to spur the accelerated development of autonomous
robotic ground vehicle technology for military applications,
and is the second in a series of Grand Challenges planned
by DARPA.
“We are excited to be a part of this historic
event,” said Dr. Michael Vest, President of Autonomous
Vehicle Systems LLC. “Vehicles developed for the
Grand Challenge will push the capabilities of autonomous
sensors and navigation for ground based vehicles. The
breakthroughs developed through this competition will
someday save lives on the battlefield as well as on
the roads at home.”
